The racing retainers are a bit more complex to fabricate and install but they will keep the wheel hub from rattling around if the axle gives way at high speed. The old banjo rear axles are a bit archaic but they work better than most folks know. I just wish that the axle shafts were reproduced by a reputable manufacture. Good used 1946 thru 48 axles are still out there. Changing the brakes over to the Lincoln/Bendix type on the front end is also a good idea. The Bendix brakes will stop better than the old Ford/Lockheed types for that old hot rod. The new Lincoln type backing plates are available and the Ford 12-inch drums can still be used with them.
