Banjo steering

Is replacing a 35 steering wheel with a Banjo type steering wheel, used on 37/39 Fords, a simple removal of the old one and installation of the banjo wheel? If not what other changes need to be made?
thanks,
donQ

Don, I'm not 100% sure of a direct exchange possibility, but assuming that it is, it's not simple unless you have an open car, due to the horn/light rod that must be removed without bending. Not impossible by any means, but just a lot more work than exchanging the wheel alone. Remember also that you'll need the horn light rod that goes with that banjo.

DonQ-

You didn't say what body style you are working with. If it is a closed body send me a PM for some instructions and pictures. Your current '35 horn rod will work but the light disk is larger than the '37-'39. As a result the '35 disk will over hang the sides of the wheel center. Again, it will work but just looks odd.

Alan and Tom,
Thanks for the input. My car is a cabriolet so I could remove the horn light rod without too much difficulty. The fact that the light disk is larger and would look odd with the later steering wheel , is probably a good reason to stay with the original design.
Thanks again donQ

Actually, if you could use the correct horn/light switch rod that goes with the '37-'39 banjo wheel you want to use, all may go together and look ok. Another possibility is finding and using a '36 banjo wheel. That will work with your existing horn/light rod and look like it belongs there. Just would not be concourse/show correct if judged at an EFV-8C/A Meet if you are even concerned about that. These are '36 banjo wheels I have picked up to possibly use on my '35 fords.

Alan,John,
I'll have to keep my eyes open for a 37-39 horn/light switch rod. I don't care about judging so that isn't an issue.
thanks for your input
