Anyone know of someone who can rebuild banjo rear ends in the south florida area? Not too many old school rod shops down here unfortunately...

Thanks

Have you joined the Early V8 organization? Do they have a regional group near you? You'll likely find some experience there.

I joined the early v8 org... unfortunately its nearest chapter is 6 hours away and has 6 members :(... I had a quote from one guy down here for $400 just to put it back together, no parts included, which seemed kinda high. I guess Ill try doing it myself. Thanks guys.

I think that getting the axles vertical to adjust the bearing preload (first) and the pinion backlash (second) is the key thing here. You'll want to get the preload set up WITHOUT having the pinion in place. Once the pinion is in place, you won't be able to get a good feel as the carrier/ring gear rotates. Doing that with all the gaskets on one side simplifies that task. Once the pinion is assembled into the banjo casting, you'll be swapping gaskets from one side to the other to get the backlash. Make sense? Here are some pix I took of my setup. I was lucky enough to come up with the plumber's vise...

PS: Looked up your location on maps.live and it looks like there are two chapters both with mailing addresses about an hour away from you. They must have members strung out along the coast possibly closer to you than you'd think?

$400 doesn't seem so out of line. I know of an A guy who spent about $2300 ( new ring/oinion/brgs/etc). Go to the A forum and look for posts by Tom Endy, he does rear ens. Many posts/pictures/advice.
V8 rear similar to an A rear end. Getting the pre-load and back lash with the gaskets probably the most impt part.
