there was a thread on the early ford aabout the resisters for 6 volts. My question is , what are the values for a 57 resister?

Re: ignition resister

Maybe I misquouted my request about the resister. It was for the ingnition. What are the values for the resister used for the ignition. Thanks for all the help. Jim

Fords to 1948 used a .5 OHM resister with a stock 6 volt coil
The Fords 12 volt coils used a 1.5 ohm resister.
All round 6 volt coils no resister needed like a 51 ford.
Most 12 volt coils need a resister.

Yes, the ballst resister is to cut volage to make the points last longer. If you want to get away from points and use a Pertronix, they recomend the resister stay in place. Ford, GM, and Mopar all used a ballast resister at one time or another, and I have used them interchangably when the correct one was not available.

If you look in any parts book like Eclind only Ford before 1949,they needed a resister.
.5 ohms at 3 amps was putting 1.5 at resister and rest at coil 6 volt minus 1.5 = 4.5plus or minus.
