Bad miss when hot on 35

Was on the interstate about 15 miles started to miss on a pull ,put a new condenser last week, just about rule that out, coil or plugs? Have NGk plugs but coil has no history, how does a coil act when bad? Never did quit but had a bad miss when hot probably about 190*

Sounds like a coil or condenser. With new condenser it is probably the coil. Send it to Skip Haney for a rebuild. You'll love it.

Runs perfect when cool, plenty of power ,does not miss a beat till it gets hot or driven several miles .can drive 30 miles on highway then drive thrutown stopping at the red lites them head for home and it starts to miss at the same place about every time.weird .probally get the coil rebuilt first ,

If it misses on a pull it's usually a secondary ign. hitch. Bad plug-bad plug wire- crack dist cap. Remember, electrictristy is lazy, it take the least path of resistance, when your engine is pulling there is more pressure in the cyl and if the spark won't jump the plug gap it will jump the next path of resistance. Miss when hot , put another condensor in it , the odds of a good new one first time is slim. Always replace the cheapest part......be glad to test your condensors if ya want .

Is there a way to test a condenser with a multimeter and how do you do it? I also have a miss on a 48 when hot and I have a "new" condenser.

Jeff,

If you use google and put in " condensor testing" there are tons of methods to test condensors. Automotive condensors by nature are a little different based on their capacity and voltage loads etc. I could never get accurate results with the multimeter methods etc,
We use a old sun tester that checks each condensor for
1-capacity in mfds (very important)
2-series resistance
3-leakage

The problem as i see it each and every day is the fact that the automotive business no longer uses the big old ignition condensors that we once had.
Therefore the aftermarket parts suppliers just put what ever they have in the box. On our chevrolet conversions i buy 24 condensors ( good name brand) and test each one. Usually i will have 5-6 defective units in every order .
If the condensor capacity is incorrect you can hear the crackling on the tester when running usually and visably see the arc at the contacts.

New 8BA, all new bits. 50 mile trip, engine started with a slight miss and by the end would barely run. Replaced the new condensor with one I'd had sitting around since 1976 ... and now it does go like new.

I would go with the guys on a faulty coil. The experience I have had with condensers is when they go, the engine dies. Once everything cools down the condenser comes back to life and it is good until it gets hot again.

Got up early this morning and did some re-wiring on the `51 while it was cool. I moved the battery tray and solenoid to the passenger side. Slowly but surely...

How about the plugs NGK AB-6.pulled a couple to check on the champion tester, spark would go out at about 115 # a couple little higher ,a couple lower, would this cause more of a miss when hot a really hot day.,they were a little black,I think the mmo might cause this.
