Bad engine vibration -- HELP

J and M,

You are correct, and the guy doing the balancing is just as important as anybody
else in the shop( nit-picky ) ! Do you balance the flywheel/clutch ***. on the
cranks, or just on the mandrels ?

Thanks, Dudley

Barev Dudley:
We balance the clutch and flywheel as an assembly as seen in the picture.
The reason being if it's attached to the crank as you're asking then balanced, if anything happens to the clutch or flywheel,"ring gear" the entire assembly needs to be rebalanced.
That is the reason I balance the clutch and flywheel as an assembly and then the crank by itself with front pulley and gear installed.

Ford balanced everything seperately and there was an average he maintained of gram weight but everything has been changed so many times the only proper way is to balance all of the pieces. The engine will run and last without the vibration problems this person is clearly having.
