Bad Day For "Rosemary!"

Hi All,

Yesterday (Sunday) our Regional Group 141 (Ohio) had a meeting followed by a tour to the Strawberry Festival in Troy, Oh. It was raining earlier in the day, but by 9:00 AM it had stopped. After a nice breakfast prepared by our hosts (Beth & David Dickey) we piled into our flatheads and headed out to the car show at the festival. It started raining pretty hard just as we pulled out. Well, we got about 2 miles down the road when a car pulled out in front of the Dickey's 1936 Ford Sedan (Rosemary) . She was leading the caravan to the show. Rosemary is an all original Tudor. Has received several "Rouge" Awards at national meets.

On the "plus" side....our hosts (Beth & David) had arranged for a guest presenter from Hagerty Ins. to join us for breakfast. As luck would have it, the Dickeys signed up for classic car ins. with Hagerty at breakfast before leaving for the car show!! ;) And...the Hagerty Ins. Rep. joined our club because he has a 1950 Ford Business Cpe. :)

Now Rosemary is going to need a good fender and perhaps a bumper and bumper brace. If you can help with any of these parts, you can pm me. Rosemary was all signed-up for Gettysburg in a couple of weeks. Maybe with a little luck (and fender) she can still make it!

The pictures below will show Rosemary before and after the accident and one of us on the way.

Regards,
Pat

Pat, hopefully someone will chime in who has or knows where there is a nice original/nos fender for Rosemary. We need to get that car fixed and ready for the Gettysberg Meet!! We all enjoy seeing those Rouge class vehicles at the shows.

When you start the repairs make sure the shop checks the frame for damage. One of the side effects of the hard Ford bumper braces is that they transmit force to the frame when hit hard. Looking at the pictures it seems the grille is up slightly, which could be simply sheetmetal shift or significant frame twist.

Obviously what is most important is no one was injured, it sounds like this is the case.

I sincerely hope that the OFFENDING driver's insurance adjuster/attorneys don't "counter" with the fact that the '36 obviously had no operational windshield wiper (in a rain storm). Really hate that this happened, especially with such a pristine survivor. DD

Thanks to RainEx...visibility was good! Actually, the fellow driving the other car had just left a "Drinking Club" and had an open container in the car along with other cans of beer. He left the scene momentarily to dispose of those items. But not before they were observed by several of us. ;) He was cited.

Isn't that special?! I hope they throw the book at him!

Wow! Glad no one was hurt and that you had insurance. When you repair the car look for damage to entire drive train for things such as broken or cracked motor and transmison mounts, bent axle, bent wishbone and bent wheels.

Thankfully, considering the rotten overall circumstances, things turned-out as well as could be hoped for, responsibility-wise. DD

Were your lights on? I used to own an old Datsun 280Z that was the same color only in metallic paint. People pulled out in front of me constantly in that car. I started running with the headlights on and that stopped it pretty much. Some colors are "invisible" on rainy days or in the shade. That color is one of them.

Yes, the lights were working fine....I believe the driver saw a long line of old cars (moving at around 35 mph) and thought he could pull out and not have to wait on them. Pat

Every Monday Barb and I do Meals on Wheels so this Monday we drove the Chevy S-10 instead of the 35 Ford Pickup. I was going through a stop light that was green and a women ran the red light and hit me in the left quarter panel spinning me around 360 in the air. What a ride. My poor truck is done, had it, totaled. Barb says we were heading south heading north she says 180. Sure glad I was not driving the 35 pickup. No one was hure only pride I guess. I will miss that truck.

Ken, I'm glad you and Barb weren't hurt! You shouldn't be driving a Chebby anyway! It's a good thing you and Barb do....taking care of those who need help. ;) There will be a special place for the both of you one day! Pat
