Bad bearings?

I popped 1/5 rod caps and found this. I am thinking they are bad due to the wear pattern. Am I correct?

Looking at photos can be deceiving but it appears to be normal wear. If you've run this engine, the oil pressure would say a lot but if not, it's always a toss up. How smooth the journal surfaces are and the condition of the bearings is all you have to go on. Some of the shell type bearings don't have a lot of thickness to the first layer of material. Plastigauge might tell more but make sure and follow the directions if you use it to check the clearance dimensions.

Well 56SD….I am going to try. It will take a lot finegaling with the crank and pushing the piston down. I will replace all of the rod bearings button her and put new heads on her. Then see if I can fire her up.

I replaced the crank shaft in a 302 without removing pistons once. You'll be busier than a one armed paper hanger for awhile.

You got it apart, so now is the time to change them. But if it had good oil pressure and wasn't noisy I wouldn't have taken it apart to begin with. Check the new ones in 10K miles and they will look just like these

Craig, I got the engine out of a donor car so have no idea what it was like to run it. But if I get her running and she last 10k then I will be happy. Right now I am planning on moving back o the PNW next summer so this is a get her running moment. When I get a new shop/ garage then I can pull her and go through her thoroughly.
