Backup light refurbish

Looking for some advice on how to refurbish my backup light. As you can see from the pictures, the wires are a bit bare. Is there a crimp-on end that I could buy that would replace the original? Any pictures of how you may have done it would be helpful.

Thanks, Dave

hard to see as you still have the wire plugged in, but i think its a "bullet" connector like in the headlights etc. it should pull out, then i drill out the old wire and solder in a new one. see if it just pulls out of the back of the bulb holder to confirm what i think you have there

It might be the type that just has a bullet slipped over the end of the wire, the strands of the wire are pulled back over the bullet and the bullet pushed into the fitting. You're the man on the ground with it in front of you, what can you see? Try pulling the wire out and see what happens.

If it's one of those special sized Ford Bullets, they are available aftermarket so you can make an entirely new wire. The bullets have a plastic sheath for it - remove it, crimp the wire into it and them put black shrink wrap on it. Looks almost like factory.

If it's a regular sized bullet, you can get them at any hardware or parts store and do the same thing.

yup, new bullets are available, i am usually too cheep, in a hurry, or both, so i try to re use the old. actually, to me his wire looks pretty good. maybe just coat with some liquid electric "tape" stuff and call it good. the reflector needs cleaning too. silver polish only, dont go after it with chrome polish or any other abrasive thing, the silver is very thin

Thanks for all of the responses. Who carries those bullets in case I want to just replace it and the entire wire?

What would it take to retrieve the bullet? Is it soldered? You could heat it up and remove the wire and clean out the bullet with a drill.

Thank you for the input. Much appreciated.

Anybody make a replacement lens gasket for these or do I just make one from gasket material?

usually cork, pick it up at parts store or hobby store and get your favorite scissors warmed up

If you can work with used ones (per "Mart"), I can throw a couple in an envelope and send them to you. Otherwise, you can get them from the Brillman Company (someone who you should know about anyway); .20 each, but the shipping will eat you alive, hence my offer.

I know CASCO, a Tbird parts house, carries them. I assume that most of the old Ford parts houses also carry them.

Thanks Tubman. Hadn't heard of Brillman before. I'll see if I can work with what I've got. I appreciate your offer and may circle back to you on it if needed. I've got two of these that I'll use the best components to make one usable.
