I took the gastank off my truch which hasn't been used in 6 or 7 years. Found a great deal of crud in the tank. Any suggestions on cleaning it. It's soaking in viginer right now.

Half gallon of kerosene, two pounds of 1/2" roofing nails, one mason jar of clear, one jetski, 50' of ski rope, and a clear day on a blue lake.

The nails and kerosene go in the tank.
The clear goes in you.
Tie one end of the rope to the tank, the other to the jetski.
Have a nice ride.

And a visit from Homeland Security.

Ron what about the pics a few days or so ago, they had the tank stuck in two old tyres so you could roll it around.

I use a gallon of muratic acid, be careful. Pour it in and move the tank around and let it set at different angles, thhen drain and go to the car wash and give it a good bath. Cost about 6 dollars withn the car wash.

I've dealt with this before and there's no easy way to get it 100% clean. Tim Armstrong is right, but in my experience, you've gotta lather, rinse, repeat a few times or else you end up with clogged fuel filters. Sometimes it's just easier to get a new tank.

Muratic acid, put tank in sun and change positions ever half hour or so. Wash with hot water then water and baking soda. Then seal with a good tank sealer.

Jim, how long would you let the muitac acid set in the tankin in one position? Is that straight or deluted? I'd be afraid it would eat a hole through the tank. Walt

Jack up one side of the rear end of your tractor. Tie the tank to the elevated wheel as nearly centered as possible. Insert a variety of media and cleaning agent inside the tank and seal it. Start the tractor in low gear and allow to run until interior is scrubbed clean. Empty and rinse tank.

I have had good results using hot water, cup of dishwasher soap, cup of oxyclean, length of chain. Turn and shake tank. May take two or three times. Let it sit for awhile between times.

If you have a Steam Jenny just insert the wand in the tank; dump it out every 1/2 hour and let it run for a couple of hours; or if there is some industry near you that has an industrial boiler use the boiler condensate and do the same thing. you will need good gloves it will be hot.

I like Johns method best, I do have a large Koboda with chains on it, so tieing it to a wheel might work. Don't know if I have a jack big enough to lift it tho. I could fill it with rocks, I have allot of them

I know where a radiator shop is, will stop in and aask. Mean whild I'm attaching it to the back wheel of the Koboda.

I like JWL's tractor idea...:) I have two gas tanks that need cleaning...:( that's another good reason to tell my wife why I need an 8N...:D

I will take a picture, I'm not jacking it up, i'll tie it to the chains and drive it around the yard.
