B eng starts hard

ok, here goes. i have recently installed a B eng in my 31 PU. professionally rebuilt etc. haven't had it on the road yet, but have driven 4 or 5 miles close go home here. typically, i go out to start it up cold, and it will crank and crank, and not even sputter. then after sitting a couple mins. i try it again and it lites off and runs perfectly. i have tried choking, not choking, and all in between. this with a nice B carb, then tried a known good A carb, acts just the same. seems to be getting a strong well timed spark. any ideas? thanx, rogerkb

Check the compression. If you have a leaky head gasket, they start hard.

Are you using a fuel pump?

It would appear your engine is rebuilt it is very likely very tight and needs some driving just keep an eye on the temp if it starts to heat up shut it off for auwile the run it some more You say it runs well whit starts Drive it.

recheck your point gap...insuficient gap will run ok but will be very hard starting
