Axle & Drive Line Seal problem

The 34 Ford and other years have a grease seal B4245 on the rear axle inside the rear axle bell and on the driveshaft in the torque tube. The KRW tool is A311 and A310 (alsoABV310). Is anyone making these or some sort of equilvalent tool? Thanks

Mac's has the tool in two forms, one more expensive than the other. I got the less expensive one and it worked fine. Turns out to be a 1/2" pipe coupling welded into a big washer. But, like I said, it worked fine. By the way, when you install the seals, consider them to be like check valves. The ones on the axles should allow over pressurized wheel bearing grease to flow into the differential. At the drive shaft, it should allow over pressurized flow to go into the U joint. The transmission vents into the clutch area.

You have this somewhat correct. If you have exceptionally high temps expanding the air in the unit then the unit is being overloaded, has the wrong lube or the adjustment is incorrect. The axle seal prevents migration of lubricants to areas the it was not intended to lubricate. You should not contaminate wheel bearing grease in rear carrier grease. The inner diameter of the axle seal is slightly smaller than the axle shaft and prevents the leaking of fluid by it tight fit. When assembling new axle seal in the housing tubes you should install the seal positioned so the major rubber ramp, of the seal is pointing inward to the carrier. The open side should face outward. Positioning the seal in this manner will allow the axle to be easily inserted thru the seal without damage.

The upper torque tube seal which is the same as the axle seal is positioned the same way with the major ramp of the seal pointing in toward the banjo. This allows the drive shaft to easily pass thru and seal just like the side axles. There should be no migration of fluids between the torque tube banjo end and the upper bearing support/speedo gear end of the torque tube. Migration here will cause the fluid to drain from the upper portion of the torque ball and speed gear and create a dry run condition wich deteriorates everything. In short the torque tube seal prevents the torque collar lube from draining out.
