AV8 rear choice??

I'm doing an AV8 28pu ('50 Merc) and would like to know what later open drive banjo rear I could use with hydraulic brakes. Some later rears are wider than others and I want to keep tire under the fenders. I have a Meverick 8" but would rather have a banjo showing under the bed. Any AV8 builders out there with some suggestions?

MMMM I'm goin back forty one years. I had an early 30 ccpu.with an open drive flatty rear end. I "think" it was a 46 ford truck rear end. If you go that route be very careful of your axle condition. (no Cracks). Try and fabricate or buy brake drum retainers in case you snap an axle. Scary S#it for sure as mine broke. Not fun. I was running 8 or 9 inch cheater slicks that went past the fender an inch give or take. AAAAhhhhhhhhhh those were the days.

Run the Model A if you have it and its not any stronger then the 32 and just a hair better then the 33-34 . As it came with a V8 from the factory. You can use the spring tube and the whole nine yards with NO cutting. You'll have to get a V-8 coupler and u-joint to mate to your trans. If your going with a 39 style trans you can also make or buy a 1 incch spacer. This way it will move the trans and motor forward so you can use a stock fuelpump, other wise the cowl will have to be notched to clear the pump.

Yea - I had a '53 Merc conv in the early 60's and went to pick up a new girlfriend. I went to pull away from her house and a snap and engine rev told me something was wrong. Looked under and drive shaft was turning and no forward motion! Old mechanic used a broom handle and wire lop to get broken end out.

No, I do not have a Model A rear - that is why the question as I would like the looks of a banjo rear but want hyd brakes. I know there is a company that makes "new" banjo and 2 sp rears with late Ford axles and brakes but are very pricey.
