AV8 Pickup Build With EFI

I hesitate to make this post because some may take offense to it not being 100% traditional but I will post and guess take the flack that comes my way. It is an 8BA, 276 ci, Schneider cam, Navarro heads, Ross pistons with thin 1.5 mm rings, balanced and etc. Running 4X2's as throttle plates and fuel injectors mounted under the intake manifold. Using one narrow v-belt for water pumps and 3 blade fan, firewall not cut and stock length hood. Pulled the intake off after 500 + miles to see what was happening under the intake, looked good and no leaks but did change a couple of things as I put it back together but it didn't change the running of it any. Have 700+ miles on it now and like it better and better. Using an Electromotive ecu for the fuel injection and crank trigger ignition.

In epoxy primer for the summer and then take it apart for body work and paint in the fall.

Vergil, I certainly won't give you any flack; how can I? I'm too gobsmacked!! I followed your build up of this on a different forum, and was most impressed. Great to hear it's living up to expectations. Brian

Traditional rods and their builders have their place; I admire their craftsmanship and attention to detail; but I am much more impressed by your innovation and problem solving skills along with the skillful execution of your ideas. My hat is of to you.

Mucho work involved there. Congratulations on a fine job and on having sufficient passion to get involved in such a project.

GOOD stuff!!!

I think you ought to airbrush some leak stains on the carb bodis to really fake people out.:)

Thanks for all the comments, very much appreciated, the way the injectors are set up is not my idea but Allen Wylie from NZ who has a flathead with injectors under the manifold. Allen was kind enough to share some pictures he had to help get me motivated.

Vergil

who made the injector plates great job

Flatmotor40 I think you are referencing the Phenolic block the injector fuel rail fits into, if that is it I made them and the fuel rails are cut down Nissan Maxima's for their side load of the fuel into the injectors (gives more room between port banks) and their longer tip to reach farther toward the port.

Vergil, thanks for the larger fonts. I think this is a fantastic job. Those that came to the Chili meet last month saw the FI intake I've made over the years. Unfortunately they didn't run very good, if at all. I'm glad to see some one take the time and exxpense to do this. At present I'm building an intake for a Bville engine, but if it doesn't work I'd like to convert it to FI. Unfortunately I think my building days are over. Good luck and let us know how it runs

Many years ago the NHRA used the tag-line "Ingenuity in Action." I'd say you live that to the fullest, what a stunning solution to a complex package!

Ron thanks for input also thanks for "Nostalgia" great book along with JWL's, admire you both. I am running two AV8's with fuel injection now, the pickup with injection under the manifold and a coupe with another 4X2 intake but injectors above the manifold. I blocked off the equalizer runners between ports on the intake of the pickup and tried the fuel injectors above the manifold but ran out of air at higher RPM due to smaller venturis of the carburetor's (94's). On the carburetors I now have mounted I used the 1 3/8" 1955/1956 ford three bolt base carbs and bored the venturis out and now looks like I am okay. I am 68 and know what you mean by more projects. The strange thing I have noticed is I look in the mirror at this old f**t and can't do as much as I used to but the mind seems not to have aged like the body has. I just sold a Simca V8 (60) that was complete and ran great, sold it before I started a fuel injection system for it. Guess we will just have to plug along and "keep'm running"
