Can you run a flathead v8 in a 30-31 with a belt driven fan with out modifying the fire wall & the radiator in stock location ?? If so what year is the fan set up?
The motor That I have is 49-53 with truck waterpumps with motormounts on the pumps. ( Bisect mount)

HI,
That engine is 30 inches long, the firewall will be OK but the belt drive fan will be a challenge. I do not think that you will have room without going to an electric fan. But I lack the experience with that swap to give you a qualified answer.

However, there are very few folks on this forum who perform this swap. Most folks here are using a stock engine, threads here lean heavily towards restoration/preservation. Folks over at the HAMB do this type of builds frequently. You will probably find better qualified information there. Click onto "Forums" above, then choose "Hot Rods and Classics" and try your question there.

It is doable with the 37-47 waterpumps and the 42-45 distributor. Also use the single pulley on the crakshaft. Gathering parts right now for such a project. I have a couple of extra sets of waterpump cores and an extra pulley. See what you have already before going out and buying a bunch. Rod

Yes you can, This one does not have the fan on yet. But I used the fan on the generator. Had to trim the blades some.

On a 49-51 you can use the original set up but you have to make some brackets for the motor mounts to the water pump. Back in the day we used the old wide belt water pumps from the older engines.

If you run the right mix of parts with your AV8 setup it is possible to run a "stock" belt drive fan. I ran a '46 engine in my '30 coupe I built. I had to run a '36 generator and fan on it though. The '36 has the fan bolt to the generator, and it also runs on the same belt loop as the pumps. If you trim the front groove off the crank pulley ans position the engine JUST right you can get the radiator in the stock spot where its supposed to be, and not have to cut the firewall.
On another note. Build your car around the engine you have. Later '49-'53 engines will also fit with the right blend of parts. But F1 pumps stick out about an inch further in the front even though the engines will interchange as far as motor mount location.
So if you build your car for a 59AB thats what youre stuck with. And Vise-Versa. Learned this the hard way..... HAHA

Have 29 av8 with 8ba pumps are within 1/2 inch of rad and runs electric fan,no room for mech fan.

I got a lesson in hot rod a couple years ago from an older rodder that came from the 50's and 60's from Passadena. An AV8 is when you pulled the body off of the 30's V8 car and put the Model A body in place of it,instant hot rod as the A's were considerabley lighter than the V8's there fore the term AV8 came to play, just putting a V8 into an A is not true to the term.
