autometer fuel gauge in 64 comet

The fuel gauge and sending unit in the tank need to be matched. This means that they both need to have the same resistance (ohms) empty and full.

You have to use the Autometer sending unit, assuming the resistance measures are different than the stock one.

I bought an Autometer gauge and tried to make it work with an aftermarket sender of matching ohms and finally gave up trying to calibrate it. The autometer tech line told me that they are calibrated for the ford sender. The difference is that the gauge and original sender are non-linear while the aftermarket senders are linear. They have lots of information to back that statement.
