Just purchased two Model A engines at a local auction. One is a short block; the other is complete including water pump, distributor, carb, gen, starter, bell housing, clutch and trans. Total price: $300 Ye-ha!

You'll have to build yourself a stand and see how they run. It's fairly easy to do, and you'll know if you have good spares, or good boat anchors. 
Now the $10,000 question! Are they good? I suggest you check them for cracks. If there good nice find. Don't turn the engine over till you pull the pans and check out the journals for any spot of rust on them. If you don't and you have a rust spot it will wipe out the bearings.
