ATF in engine oil

I believe I read a post onetime where it was suggested to add 1qt. Of ATF could be added to the crankcase oil. What does this do for the engine or transmission?

I would like to learn the benefits of this trick.
Thanks...

One quart might be a bit much.
A lot of people think of Automatic Transmission Fluid as being the same thing as Marvel Mystery Oil.
A smaller amount would be good for your engine.

Race, there's all kinds of home remidies listed of all the T forums and that's all they are is home remidies. There's no proof that any additive does anything to improve engine performance or life. Straight 30 non-detergent is what was originally called for but a good 10-30 or 10-40 works just fine especially in colder climates. Why add oil to oil anyway? It just thins the mixture.

"...but it helps the clutches glide together for velvety smooth shifts!"

On a T, oil is oil. Back in the 60's we had a 26 touring car in northern Wisconsin, and ran out of oil out in the country. The only thing nearby/open was the Piggly Wiggly and we bought a gallon of Mazola corn oil to get home on. Long enough ago that it was in a glass brown jug! ws

Manufacturers of wooden bands sometimes recommend soaking the bands in ATF prior to installing. ATF is sometimes thought of as an anti-band chatter additive.

ATF still has Zinc in it. Modern oils don't anymore. This may be partly why someone would recommend using ATF. I believe diesel oils still have zinc in them.
