ASMC NO 236 Jack for 1932.

I am just finishing up a collection of the included Ford tools with the 32 and just found the cast and forged ASMC jack. This was the "Other" jack as shown in the 32 book. I have been watching for one for a couple years and the very good as found unrestored jacks are green and not black. The rusty ones like the one I have and using the red rust remover gel, appears green under the rust. I guess this is about 4 that I have seen green and not the reported black color. Not a big deal but why would ASMC ship a painted green jack other than black to Ford, only to have it repainted? I would also hesitate to claim it is primer. Baking enamel would not be using a primer on a raw casting..

Model B & Model 46 'Shark Fin' Tool Kit Jack
Auto Specialties number 236 'Shark Fin' toolkit jack. This jack is one of several correct ones used from April 1932 until December 1934.

In addition to the cast version in Pete's photo there was a stamped version nearly identical in appearance. All that I have had and seen, and that's more than a few, have been painted semi-gloss black, not green. Neither version is especially rare, but but not cheap either.

And there is another one very similar to above but has rivets holding the vertical body together rather than the crimp. Knob a little different as well.

Original 1940 Auto Specialties, Auscolift, jack and it's base, have been found in a flat green very much like olive drab.
