A's in the snow

When the kids were young we always took the old 29 Town Sedan to town to view the Christmas lights. Sometimes I had to make a few passes to get up the hill from the shed, but once on the road we had no trouble. I had an Autolite heater for the front seat and some quilts for the rear seat. Only trouble we had was when I bought some hot chocolate for the kids and the windshield frosted up.

We had about 3" snow last week. Took the Model A out to a local restaurant. New tires, but still careful as it takes longer to stop with the narrow tires. Still, lots of fun!

I guess I'll be putting my snow skills to use next week.. waited too long to get my state inspection and the only free days the mechanic has is when it's going to snow. This should be fun :o

Last time was almost 4 years ago. It didn't do terrible but I was really cautious!

My dad said he would go out to his A brush the snow away from the windshield, start her up, put it in 3rd, and go to work. I would also assume during those times the tread on the tires wasn't the greatest either. He claimed he could go anywhere without getting stuck. You just had to learn how to apply the throttle.

When my cousin had my coupe in the late '60's, he and his brother commuted to college in Wyoming through the winter in it. Come to think of it, so did my Dad 15 years earlier in Colorado Springs.

"Almost nobody born in the last 45 years know how to drive on snow and ice."

May I modify this statement to read: "Almost nobody born in the last 45 years know how to drive." The younger they are, the worse drivers they are. Isn't Driver's ED taught in school anymore??? Obviously not around HERE! Another close call today in traffic, caused by a teenage bimbo looking down and texting while she was driving. Jeez...The dumbing down of America continues.
Marshall, Grinch of the Month

No Marshall you're not a Grinch, just a realist!
I had some dummy passing me going up a hill last week, in a double yellow line stretch of road. They were still in the oncoming lane as they peaked the top of the hill. Young guy I can't blame that one on the 18-20 year old girls that usually do that stuff!

Tom in Koln, Germany. Same here in Illinois they pile on the road salt like crazy. We had a nice rain the other day washed the roads all down. There was a snow watch for 40 MILES north of us we were not included in that, no snow forecast for us, were going to get nothing. The Illinois Dept. of Transportation was out in force throwing salt and spraying salt brine??
I asked a local Illinois State Trooper 'why'. He told me they were trying to 'get ahead' of any snow we might get.' But then under his breath he said that 'Christmas is close they want overtime pay, more $$.'
I have to admit that new cars have a lot better body integrity than they had 50 years ago I see 20 year old Mustangs and Ford Fusions running around with not a speck of rust .

We used 16" tires with chains.Winter of '61 snow was level with top of the fenders. But we broke the road. Hard pulling in 1st gear for mile after mile. Blew a head gasket. But the steers had feed.

Rust never sleeps. The feds put in a rule that cars and components (fuel, brake, structure) had to meet a certain rust resistance for it's expected life. The manufacturers decided to also use coated steels to help against rust through where you can see it.
