Are these rear springs needed?

My 40 Ford truck has what looks like overload springs.
Are these something someone added on?if not needed I'd like to remove them and keep the stock leaf springs .The leaf springs I'll remove, clean up and restore.Im also going to redo those shock mounts.and install adjustable coil over shocks

Thanks Deuce.They looked cobbed on as well as those hideous shock mounts.alot of cleanup to do but surprisingly only surface rust so far

Original had lever shocks.
There are tube shock kits available but I'm not very interested in modern stuff.

Those shocks look like they are mounted at a bad angle. Should be more vertical .

I agree about the angle .their coming off regardless

Get rid of all that added on stuff. Go back stock - my opinion.
