Are repro kingpins any good?

I am wondering if anyone has any positive experience with reproduction kingpins. My originals are worn too much to fit the axle as well as they should. Thanks for your advice...

If your king pins are loose in axle, then KP bore is likely worn from not having lock-bolt tight enough Don,t install new KP,s & expect them to stay tight.May be best to find another good axle.

Buy from a reputable supplier. Check for parallel, as some are tapered. If not to your satisfaction, send them back.

I think back in the 80's (date?) a bunch of repo kingpins hit the market and they were not hardened enough for proper spec's. There was a lot of threads on them back in the day on the old FardBarn. One way (again
I'm trying to remember) to tell if they were/are hard enough. Was to run
a hacksaw blade over them were they fit through the axle. If they cut real easy then they were not hardened enough. The blade would just
skip over the pin and not really cut if properly hardened. This would be done with only your hand and the blade. And not in a vise bearing down
with the hacksaw handle w/blade.:o Who else remembers this........

Had a similar situation here in Canada: bought two sets (doing two resto's) and only one of the four pins was "on spec". Sent the three back to my supplier, take a micrometer with him to his stock room and send back three "on spec" pins. Definitely insist on precision and top quality over "just good enough"
