My 28 AR sport coupe had some pin hole rust thru 4-5 inches around the filler neck. I decided to buy another tank rather than try and repair the original. Being a newbie at this I bought a 28-29 tank on ebay, had it bead blasted and painted. Oops didnt test fit it first. I tried to install it and it wouldnt fit. none of the dash bolt holes lined up and was about 1/2 inch narrower than the original. Also of note, the choke rod loop on the bottom of the new tank sits several inches forward from where the one on the original tank. Is this another quirk of the AR's? the remedy?????? I spent about $400 repairing the original tank and it works great. The down side is now I have a beautiful blue tank and nuthin to put it in. mayb i will build another car around it! Dont tell my wife!
