AOD and the Flathead

Anybody with experience installing an AOD transmission behind a flathead?

Comments and ideas are appreciated.:)

I've done a couple successfully and am doing one now. My customer wanted me to use the Speedway pkg. It requires some grinding on the block and furnished starter to get the starter to fit, along with a minor pan lip adjustment. The adaptor it self bolts on with no problems. Its a straight forward install but this trans when the engine is started needs to be adjusted by someone with trans knowledge. It is sensitive to pressures as stated in the instructions and if not treated right can self distruct in a heart beat. After everything is properly adjusted it works fine. As a side note I have had to ad an additional return spring to the Lokar cable as the one furnished couldn't get the job done. The trans is a bit bulky and I don't know how much HP it consumes.

I guess there are pluses and minuses with everything. Such is life. I'm still running stock 3 spd in my 40 pkp w/3.78 rear. Too close to OK on highway to initiate making a change even though I've got an 1986 AOD in "storage" in an 86 crown vic. Maybe one day but I usually jump in one of my street rodded 40 pkps to really sail down the highway. Having options is good. Al
