Anybody Using Rotella T 15-40

I run it in my 351w stroker engine that I pound on, 500 hp w a 100 shot, I use a filter, if you can use it in my application Id say yours is real safe.

i think it has more zinc that the oils back in the day, but you can add zinc if you want....most just run it as it comes out of the jug....Mike

This oil was stripped of ZDDP at least last year. One of the last holdouts. Federal mandate to comply w/ catalytic converters.

Why do you think that Shell would be exempt when everyone else had to ditch the zinc and phosphorus? You've been running SM oil, check the API doughnut that is what SM IS, no ZDDP.

You just THINK you have it, and for Model A's and flatheads you don't need it anyway we've been thru this a zillion times.

yup, no zinc.
for "other" old motors i've been using valvoline racing oil it has zinc.....autozone had a 50% off sale a while ago and i stocked up.....13 cases

Are you sure about this?????? Two years ago the amount of ZDDP was reduced, but not below the amount needed for a flat tappet engine. I have heard nothing to the contrary and I am sure it would have made the rounds of all the car sites if true. In fact, the lowered ZDDP is still is about twice as much as the oils that were on the market when the YBlocks were new... If you proof of what you are saying, please provide as it is contrary to every thing that has been said of this oil. Because if it is true, then no one with a YBlock or other flat tappet engine should use it. I want to see a lab test.

Additionally, 10/40 and 20/50 oil also has at least double the amount of ZDDP as was in the oils that were originally out when the Y Blocks were new. Engine builders have verified this.

diesel oil is ok to run in a street flathead? i went to the shell site and their info states that the zinc ppm is 1200,is this enough? also have you guys used or heard of A.P fischer classic car oil,out of long beach,ca.? the site says it has all the good stuff kept in it.

I use Shell Rotella 15w40 in both my flatheads........I also add STP in the Blue botlle. It has the additive ZDDP. Look at the front label, small letters lower corner of the bottle.

Yes, more than enough

Been using rotella for years in everything from forklifts to lincoln town cars with exceptional service. I change oil and filter every 20,000 miles or so.

Once again..... there is no need for ZDDP in a STOCK flathead V8 or A. The valve springs do not exert enough pressure on the cam to displace the lubricant.
I cannot understand the obsession with Rotella. Diesel oils by their nature are largely unsuitable for gasoline engines, due to the nature of the additives they contain, and the ones they dont contain.
I read some research recently stating that too much ZDDP (as in adding it yourself and getting the mix wrong) can be destructive also, due to the overload displacing the oil that should be between the lifter and the cam.

I use Rotella 15W40 and GM EOS or STP red for the ZDDP. I figure why take a chance? And seems everyone says the flatty likes thicker oil...maybe for the full floater rod bearing? The biggest deal with thicker oil is winter time when mine is never started. The gear driven pump in a flathead won't strip like the hex shaft in a small Ford six or 5.0

I use Valvoline VR1 10W30 for all my other flat tappet engines that have to start in subfreezing temps. Case on Amazon is $55 and free shipping if you have Amazon Prime. I built a Falcon 144 six for my daily driver with the 1/4" oil pump driveshaft and the narrow rocker shaft oiling passages...those things do not like thick oil!
