Any Idea What Type This is?.....

I came across this head in our "stash" of stuff we're getting ready to bring to a swap meet. From what I've read the "heart shaped" combustion chambers may mean something good as in higher compression

It's not a C as it has 4 water pump bolts. There are no markings on the head as far as numbers or letters. When layed out next to a stock head the combustion chamber appears to be smaller in the sense that the roof of the chamber of a stock head looks higher (or deeper depending on your point of view) I'm figuring that it may be a tractor head but I'm thinking there are others on here that have better experience and are more in the know. :D

It could be a European Model A head for the smallbore engine .Looks exactly the same from the top, but a higher compression. Check the water passages against a stock headgasket,The smallbore one has a couple extra holes that need to be blocked off to fit on a standard bore engine. If it is one how did it get to NY but stranger things do happen

Model A head, possibly a police head. All the heads I have seen with the little dimple mark between the water pump opening and the water outlet opening are factory heads. Many factory parts have this dimple such as, crank pulleys, water inlets, heads, or most any cast iron engine part.

I've got one that looks similar. Mine has 3 raised bumps on the drivers side and 4 on the passenger side. it doesn't have the bump detween the water pump and upper water neck. It has what looks like a tag that was cast into the head on the passenger side and front, where the rusty spot is on the front of the head that is pictured. The tag has the letter G 2-4 I'm not sure about the 4 , it could be some type symbol It has the heart shaped high compression combustion chamber. The guy that I got it from called it a police head. I know that the police head that Ford produced had a large letter B. Western Auto sold a police head with model A embossed on the riser of the head, so it can't be that one. I don't know if sears ever made a police head. I'm guessing that it could have been a Ford head that was used on some combines. It seems that I remember reading that there was a 6.8 ratio head that was used on some combines. It was more sensitive to timing than other heads that I have used but very powerful.

That head came on one of four engines we got from a guy getting rid of some of his old spares out of CT. Babbit was shot in all of them, but got some nice parts out of it, including a B cam! :D

I have one identical to what you have shown. I cc'ed mine and found it was very close to 6.0 :1 but I did have it milled after I bought it at Iola. It actually looks identical to a 5.9 Brumfield "B F" head that I bought from Larry. A buddy bought one identical to the "swap meet" head from Brumfield when he was first producing heads. That 5.9 head, which I have seen, had no ID marks anywhere which is why I call my swap meet discovery an early Brumfield. I spoke with, Larry when he was still talking to me, about the two heads and he denied every making a head without his "B-F" mark. Regardless, the head you displayed sure looks like a Brumfield. Gar,

I received an E-mail from Larry and he said that the head you have was never sold by him. The earliest head sold very briefly by Larry had three
rather large embossments down the center of the water hump about 13/32" in diameter or about the size of a button on a man's shirt and a
good 1/8" high or better. ALL heads MADE by Brumfield have
always had a B-F on them.

Based on some measurements we took it appears the head I have is somewhere around a 5.2 - 5.5 which is fine with me. Something with just a teeny bit more zip to put on the speedster!
