Could be. This has a replacement switch in it (non-security) so maybe when they did that they dropped this down the tube and it is just now falling out? Thank you! I'll dig into that area tomorrow to make sure there isn't anything missing.

back of a pop out would be my guess. do you have one in the car at the moment? if so i would check it before it causes a fire from a short.

It is from your speedometer and I would replace it right now or it will stop working.

You probably have to JB weld it back in

Check it out

I've never seen a part like that on a 1929 speedometer. It also isn't from any original popout switch, but might be part of a repro switch.

Thats a Stanley 25 foot tape measure. Pretty common really though I don't think its a fatmax model as it doesn't have the thick plastic coating at the end.

I'm surprised no one else knew that!

THANK YOU! Thinking back, I probably should have posted this on the Stanley forums. Now, how did it get in the speedo tunnel? (same way the rock ended up in my spare tire bracket???) ;)

I come out with a good one occasionally :)

In all seriousness my guess is its from a speedo. It looks like it even has a dimple in it where the back of a spindle \ axle would ride.

the rock ended up in my spare tire bracket ;)

When we disassembled our 50-B for restoration, we found a couple rocks in the spare bracket. I think Ford put 'em in there for ballast to increase traction, and thereby performance, in them Sporty Coupes.

Sorry, no clue on your mystery part - did recognize the tape, though. ;)

Joop and Mr.Tube nailed it. I must have knocked it off when I was messing with the cable under the car. It snapped right back in. The brass plug (arrow pointing) also fell out. I assume this is some type of lube hole??? Thanks for all the help and comedy! BTW, the speedo assy is marked North East Electric Co. Rochester NY.

Do you have a North East speedo? That is, an oval speedometer without the odometer? If you do, That's a rare set-up. Be careful with that cable. The ends are unique to the NE speedos.

Yes, that is the name on the back but I have an odometer. No trip odometer if that is what you meant to say. Thanks for the heads-up.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have found that I can't post a picture in a pm ??? Anyhoo, I'm looking for identification and or restoration info on my latest find...a GE fridge. Mr. Tube ??? anyone ??? Thanks :)

BE CAREFUL with that old fridge. Some of those old units were sulfer units. They can bite you HARD. DO NOT loosen any lines in an enclosed area. A couple drops of that stuff can knock you out cold. A little more can knock you out permanently. Take it outside, then just barely crack a line and run a ways away, and I mean run. If there is any left in the unit you will see it drip.

I have an old ice cream freezer, guess how I learned?

Neat old fridge tho, I like it!!!!

Wimp.... :p

I had a discussion with Deluxe Delivery via PM and warned them. I don't believe they have any plans of cracking any lines. It is 98% a sulphur dioxide unit with a 2% chance its R-12 but I highly doubt it.

All joking aside, sulphur dioxide will certainly kick your butt if it leaks if not kill you. Early DR units have a chance of leaking due to the porcelain over steel evaporators. This is a later unit which has a stainless evaporator and nickel plated copper refrigerant lines. Highly doubtful it will ever leak as long as its not mishandled.
