Another universal joint question….

I asked a question earlier on the universal joint in my 29 Tudor and I am hoping someone in the Barn can help me with one additional question. I was able to find a used replacement for my worn universal, a ‘31 rebuildable style, and I am in the process of rebuilding it. I glass beaded the body and I am not sure what the finish should be on the bare metal so I am hoping someone can help here. I went through the judging standard and I am assuming because the universal can’t be seen or visually judged, there is no description of the finish that should be present in the standard that I could find. I was thinking because it is packed in grease it could be bare metal but I want to do what is right and supplied by Ford originally.

Re: Another universal joint question….

I am by no means an expert but the originals I have seen appear to plain with no finish

Re: Another universal joint question….

Bare metal. They are protected against corrosion by their environment (covered in grease). I just acquired a NOS later version (rebuildable) today, funny this topic should come up now.

Re: Another universal joint question….

If it is an original in really good condition, have it gold plated.
