"Mr.Ford" is a 1950 Custom Deluxe (I think) Fordor that belonged to my grandfather. The car waited patiently on blocks for over 40 years in Pennsylvania until I could find time and a place to make it run again. As of last week, it is safely in an old dairy barn about 8 miles away. At last !
The car has always been garaged and is good shape (albeit dusty/grimy). My intent is to keep it as original as possible and to drive it at every opportunity.
Other than the warm memories I get sitting in the car and remembering my grandfather, I don't have specific knowledge/experience with this car and 1950 technology.
Although I was promised that the oil, gas, and antifreeze were drained before it went on blocks, the car smells of varnish, and any tanks residues would be over 40 years old. Besides gentle cleaning, my initial intentions are to get the gas tank and radiator cleaned (should I drop and clean the oil pan?). Miraculously, the 60 year old tires still hold air, so the car will stay on wheels until I determine whether the engine is free. Any thoughts/comments on initial steps toward recovery?
I live about 35 miles from Kansas City, and hope to find a Shoebox mentor near me. Advice and comments welcome from all. Thanks, Tony
