Another Henry ford mystery

1938 ford

I know there is a story behind this............but I do not know what it is !

I am installing exterior door handles on my 1934 Tudor sedan. Passenger side went great, installed exterior door handle square shaft, used two screws to secure to door and everything is great. Works fine.

Now for my mystery. Drivers door has only 1 inch hole for the door handle shaft, but no holes for the attachment screws. WHY NOT???????

Any fellow barners out that can enlighten this rookie 34 builder? I am sure there is a logical reason but I sure am stumped! This is an original door that came with the car, I am sure because I fought the rusted hinge pins for several days.

Can anyone help?

Don't have your answer but > 2015 - 1934 = 81 years.
It may not in fact be original door.
It happens with some shocks I get in / Quote } I am sending you my original shocks off my 1938 all original unmolested coupe > then when they get here they are in fact 1946 - 48 a larger body shock then it left the factory with.

Bill they must be originals! They were rusty, no body ever touched this car with a wrench!
I get it lots aswell, genuine belief that it left the factory with a part that wasn't made for about 10 years after.
I'm not knocking the first Guy here, but it came with the car and had rusty hinges doesn't guarantee a genuine non molested part.
I'm sure all 34's used screws to attach the handle, I'll let someone else answer for definite though, I'm not a 34 expert.
Martin.

Perhaps the door was re-skinned by a body shop or previous owner but never finished the job by drilling the holes. Are you sure they haven't just been welded up and metal finished? Really good welds can be invisible, can you see the inside of the door where th holes should be?

Duece roadster you hit it right on the head! I looked inside the door after removing the door lock mechanism, and yes................ the screw holes have been leaded shut !

Here is the rest of the story, I did it. Now I remember leading the area around the door handle because it had a slight dent that I could not reach from the backside. I forgot to got back and drill out the mounting holes once the repair was completed. I leaded the car about 3 or four years ago.............I am suffering from a severe case of CRS (can't remember ****". I apologize to all who tried to help me, when this was all my fault !!!
