another frozen bolt dilemma

Thanks EVERYONE for your suggestions, comments, and encouragement.

I got it out by drilling in increments as described. Last bit used was a 19/64 and it brought out a few of the bolt threads. I picked the top threads out, used a tap to clean a couple more (I know, resist using the tap), then cut slots in the threads of on old bolt to get the rest.

I guess I got lucky on centering the pilot hole, I know it's not skill :D

Thanks again, the helpful folks here are amazing.

Repeat, as a former machinist, the careful drilling method work best when all else fails. And as advised here, never, never use a harden tool like an easy out or drill that will break off in the bolt because then you are SOL, because nothing will get it out except an E-lox machine, (electrical discharge), that burns it out with arc.

if I were you I would rather use a gig. snap on has a dynamite set. you would have to put your pump back on. then put your gig in the hole to drill. after drilling when your ready to tap on the broken bolt. slant your punch making your force go cc. I have had some bad luck with easy outs.
heard positive things about the candle theory. good luck let us know how you make out.

Bolt the waterpump on as stated by Flatjack. Put a bushing in the hole that will reduce the hole to 3/16 or 1/4. Drill to depth and get the oxy-acetylene torch in hand and "blow-out" all the steel remnants.
