Another Ford Maroon Question

I am restoring a 68C and am making plans as to what color to paint it. Too many bronson yellow 68Cs IMHO. I am giving strong consideration to Ford Maroon. I find it to be an attractive color and you don't see many cabriolets in that color. In looking at the Model A Ford Paint & Finish Guide, they show two colors,,, Ford Maroon,,, and Ford Maroon Medium. I am not sure as to which color is correct,,, or why there are two similar colors listed. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It was the darker color. Ford Maroon is a very dark, muddy color when it is correctly tinted. I find most people do not like the true Ford Maroon and opt out for the Maroon Med. color on their cars. A great example is of the S/W Sedan we did below. Most people accept it as authentic and the owner did not care for the actual Ford Maroon.

While I have never scanned a exterior body panel, I have seen a few dash panels that had Ford Maroon on the backside, and I had one scanned. Below is a 1927 Model T body that is painted in the Ford Maroon. In the sun from 100+ yards away, it looks Black. At 50 yards next to something Black you can see a hint of red-ish purple. Only at close range in direct sunlight, --or by using a camera flash can you see the true color. I think you will like your chosen color combination.

Thanks to all for the input. I will certainly take this into consideration before making a final decision on this color.

If you are not a 100% purist, you might look at Tampa Red (1931) or Rubellite Red (1930-31). Both colors are much brighter shades of maroon than the "muddy" Ford Maroon.

"Brother A",,, thanks for posting the picture. It helps to visualize the final output. Can you tell me which paint make and number you used for this car? Thanks.
