Another Flathead Rescue

Although its a 54 its still a Mercury flathead since it is Canadian built. Kind of interesting to watch this guy bring it back to life. Remarkably well preserved original Meteor that has been stored for many years.

I'm hoping that most Canadian car guys were dealt just a few more smarts than this "brainiac" ....I mean, 45 mph with NO BRAKES? Just didn't seem necessary to prove SOME pointless POINT! DD

This is the Canadian 1954 Meteor Rideau Sedan that has just been rescued.
Look at the condition of the front door?

I didn't see what his speed was but will add that he had a working park brake. I drove my 52 with just a park brake for a while until I got the necessary parts. No problems and that park brake will stop the rear wheels. Most important there is low or no traffic to contend with.

Apparently mice had got into the car at some point and partially filled the door with their residue causing rust. Otherwise the rest of the car was remarkably well preserved for it's age. I only wish my Merc had been that good.

Like the Canadian Fords and Meteor, the Australian 1954 Fords retained the Flathead V8 Engine, as illustrated in the Ford Australia Sales Brochure.

One thing I notice they only show the Ford carburetor on this ad. The two top of the line Meteors (Rideau and Niagara) got the Mercury engine which had the Holley teapot carb. The base line Meteor still had the smaller Ford flathead and carburetor. And of course Mercury got the new Y block for 54.

Hey Ralph I watched this yesterday before seeing your post. I immediately thought of you, because of a) the accent, b) Canuck 54's with flatties like NZ assembled 54's ( we being privileged to get an extra year ) .... I must have been psychic!....and it is Physic Garage that posted, go figure.

Hi; I had a set of Aluminum [C-8] heads and aluminum manifold from a '54 Canadian 8ba- So why does this Meteor use Iron ? Newc

I have never seen a stock Ford, Mercury or Meteor with anything other than cast iron heads here.
And Graeme, yes, phsycic co-incidence I guess. The yt link came up on a Meteor facebook page and of course I had to check it out as I'd never heard of his channel before. Several good videos on there about the Meteor and hoping he puts up a few more as he progresses.

Ford based cars like the Meteor as well as all the Ford models retained the flathead in 1954. Mercury based models like the Monarch and regular Mercury Custom & Monterey models received the new 256 Y-block.

Ok, I figured it would be interesting to some here. I'm hoping he will do a few more of the car.
As often happens on youtube, another video popped up on the side featuring another Alberta guy's channel where he is getting a 49 Ford running after a long rest. https://youtu.be/E_94Kxovnp8

I love seeing this type of video. This involves a 49 Ford, that sat for over 50 years, and is covered in oil and dirt. So many times the posts involve a perfectly cleaned and restored engine that won't start. These engines want to run, and will with just a minimal amount of gas and spark. So the next time you are having an issue with your engine, remember these videos, and know it wants to and will run.

It makes you want to go find an old engine, just to make it run again! Thanks again for posting the video.
