another flathead question mystery numbers/ update pic

ok got a 59c block to build this ones got some numbers stamped on top driver side rear on top *799a 1865950* those are ford stars just like the one's found on frame's and the bell housing has 59c. i have seen lots of blocks with 59 on them i have 5 just never c. and the #s 829144 above it. thanks billy

According to this page its a 46 Mercury number. (search on 799A)

Ive seen vin numbers stamped in this place a couple of times.

Possibly intended for a market that required an engine number - stamp it same as frame number.

I have several engines with numbers stamped on them. California required a number on the engine. Whether it was done at the dealership or the factory I can't say.

The number translates to '47 Ford passenger. All V8's were 99's
7=1947 model year, 99=239V8, the only V8 then, A means this number was assigned to a Ford. If the very same engine had been originally in a Merc, that would be M, C for commercial, T for truck, etc.

Could you post a picture of the 59 and the C?? I've never seen that!
