Another Carburetor Question

Working on deciding which old carb to rebuild. I have two and both I have had for over 30 years, just sitting in a box of parts. This one has me puzzled, but then I am not very well versed on any but my two cars so many of you may have seen this before.

Here is the base of one of them.

I have never seen one with anything but the plug on the bottom. This one has this assembly in the plug hole.

Inside the hole it appears that the screw in jet is deeper than my others, and it has a washer in place for this screw in needle adjuster to seat tightly against.

Is this a common thing to have on a Zenith Carburetor? Do I just throw it away and rebuild with the standard I am used to?

That's been posted before, I'm "thinking" it was used on a Combine Engine????? "Maybe" in conjunction with a Governor?????

Thanks Bill, do I understand that there should be nothing different about the base Zenith that would not mean I can do a rebuild to a normal assembly?

That is an aftermarket adjustable main jet.

Not worth the trouble to experiment to figure out how to adjust it.

I have found them from time to time on Zenith carbs over the last 50 years. I have seen maybe 8 or 10 of them ...

As I remember they were marketed as a device to increase gas mileage.

Makes a nice novelty to hang on the wall.

As far as I know the lower casting should be able to be rebuilt by replacing the adjustable main jet.

I didn't think about that, Benson,
I remember the aftermarket adjustable main jets for the Stromberg 97's. Using them, Chief & I ran a Stromberg on a Flathead Indian Twin, in a 3/4 Midget!

Thanks for the information. I guess I will keep it for the hell of it, and rebuild another body.

Great to have the people around to answer these kind of questions!
