another 35 window regulator question

The window regulator is held on by 6 machine screws. What is the purpose of the sheet metal screw behind the top front machine screw? Thanks

I wondered the same when I was disassembling a 35 door awhile back. The screw in this door was only 3/8" long and I couldn't see any purpose for it. Perhaps some kind of assembly aid or something to do with the upholstery panel ???

I wonder if they drilled and put it in after they had the regulator where they wanted it so it wouldn't move. The other 6 machine screws are in oblong holes for adjustment.

Please refresh my memory. I had a 38 two door sedan. When the rolling up the window if you kept going did the window slide back and act as a vent. Somebody said the window moved back when you first started rolling the window down. Was it different for different years?

I think it was called a smokers vent and was used on cars that didn't have window vents. My 39 STD works like that. In Randy in Ca's pictures the arm with the long slot causes the window to move back just a little, before going down.

Another little tidbit I just discovered: it's highly unlikely that new glass will be positioned exactly where the old was on the channel - even more so with new channels. Therefore leave the 6 screws a tad loose without the sheet metal screw until you get the regulator working properly. Then tighten the 6 screws and your likely to find the hole for the sheet metal screw wont line up. Drill a new hole, put in the screw and your good to go.

Also because your glass felt /channel has a step in to position the slid back glass forward ,you need the lower corners on your glass rounded so the transition from rear to forward position does not tear up the felt,
