Annoying Rattle - Update

Temporarily cover the mating surfaces of the door and jamb with blue painter's tape. (It has less adhesive and won't pull the paint off when removed, but still be careful.) Rattling surfaces will be muted by the tape.

Thanks to all.....I or we shall continue our search. My wife is a nurse and she has a stethoscope and that sounds like a unique way to proceed. I was joking with her and said, "I think I'll take the coupe to our local Ford dealer and see if there is a current shop repair notice ".

You can buy a "mechanics stethoscope" like this:

Or use an old-timey "bell-style" stethoscope such as this:

The medical diaphragm-type stethoscopes such as you wife probably has are for high-frequency sounds and may not work as well for your purpose.

Every once in a while, when my wife and I get my A up to 60 mph, I hear a whine from the passenger's side of the car. (Just sayin...)

I agree with the stethoscope use and les I'm one of the post above about radiator brace rods
The firewall is prone to cracking at the brace ros brackets on many cars and the cracks themselves can cause noise
Also the center good hold down
Another problem is the baffles in the gas tank can rattle if a spot weld comes loose try filling up the tank after checking everything else and see if it fixes the problem

You can use the stethoscope while the car is idling and using the hand throttle to give rpm to help locate rattles . That's safer than driving with a stethoscope in your ear
Beat of luck

I have been able to eliminate almost all of the rattles in my coupe. I just take my hearing aids out before I drive.

I have found that turning both hearing aids off will cure most annoying rattles and your engine will appear to run much smoother.

I had loose glass in windshield frame drive me nuts. Apparently someone used thinner than original glass. Also I second the radiator rods suggestion. Look for cracks around the firewall brackets and loose rivets in the area.

I know you think the rattle is coming from the pass. side but I had a rattle that would only happen on deceleration. It was coming from the control rods running inside the steering column. Originally there was a felt or rubber sleeve around the rods to keep them quite but they get brittle or not replaced when the control rods are replaced.

Very funny Frank. I love your sense of humor!

I just keep telling her that if i could just get this car going fast enough, all of the noises would be behind us....
