Animal problem

Had a problem with dogs marking (peeing) on garbage cans (metal ones). Stood the can on a rubber mat on a peice of sheet metal. Connected the can and plate steel to an electric fence unit. No more dog problem.
What size moth would you recommend to catch!

Those tree rats deserve nothing less than a .22 to chew on! My uncles house burned to the ground and he lost everything after those tree rats chewed the wiring in the attic. They ate every bit of wiring out of one of my Omni's and chewed the lid off one of my containers of Model A parts. There is a fox that hangs around, but it isn't getting the job done, so it's time to set some traps.

I have a dog that takes care of my problems, she goes out of her way to get them and does a very good job. Pete

Ha ha I can seek comfort I am not alone with this problem - ok, before I try the repelent I'll check out the electronic measures. The cat idea has some appeal, I'll discuss it with the dog.................thanks again
W.K,

If you trap and relocate squirrels, relocate them at least three miles away; and, spray paint their tails orange! If an orange tail squirrel shows up at your place, you need to relocate them farther away.

A while back I had a Marmot-similar to a Gopher, build a nest behind the battery box on a pickup that isnt used very often.Luckily it didnt chew the wiring, but it lined its nest with a lot of the fiberglass insulation from under the hood.

I know this is off-topic but I need a solution to squirrels eating the wiring harness's in my vehicles. They ate nine wires out of the harness in a Nissan p/u. They ate the harness almost in half TWICE on my Maxima and just now I was checking the cars and noticed they ate two wires in the harness of my 08 Camry. These cars sit in the driveway - my A and Chevy Impala live in the garage as they are not drivenmuch. If they attack my 2011 Tundra there is going to be carnage in the Cul-D-Sac!

Has anyone experienced this problem and I'm at wits end to stop these damn squirrels. Thanks

Push the chevy out there...that'll keep em away

Red squirrels are suckers for peanut butter. A hava-a-heart trap and a jar of pb solved my problem. Last year we relocated over 100 of the little beasts.

I had a problem with squirrels eating the unripe pears from my home orchard-they would eat the seeds out of the pear, and drop the rest on the ground. Nothing worked until I found a Havahart trap at a local car swap meet, of all places. It was a small one, just right for squirrels. I set it out by the pear tree the squirrels were hitting hard, and baited it with a pile of sunflower seeds inside. I quickly caught eight of them. I transported them to a park fairly far away, that looked to have plenty of oak trees and other trees that would support them. Problem solved.

I used to relocate them to the bottom of a five gallon bucket of water.
It seemed to work good, and I never had any repeat offenders.
I would not waste any gas money or spray paint on a squirrel or chipmunk.

I agree with Vince. Why waste gas money on a rodent, that if transplanted then becomes someone else's problem.

The small red squirrels are the worst ofenders, when I moved to the woods they were chewing everything. It wasn't good enough th sit on the bird feeder and eat sunflower seeds they chewed a hole right through the corner and moved in. The DNR said shoot them all! I got all but one -- he was really quick, I asked a trapper friend how to get the last one. He said they are so curious they are easy; put a small trap on a post, with some syrup on it to hold a hand full of feathers. The last one was swinging by the chain in about 45 minutes. The grey squirrels have since moved back to the woods -- they cause no problems. Good luck, E LaBrash

I had a cat problem and bought a trap at Tractor supply as a bonus it was 2 traps for 25 bucks .

Large trap and small one for squirrels, so far 4 cats have entered the relocation program .

They now live at a local lake near me .
what exactly would a "cat problem" involve?
I would much rather have a cat problem than a rat/mouse/squirrel/chipmunk problem.
if you are drowning those cats as your post implies, that sounds like animal cruelty which should be prosecutable.
j.m.h.o......our cats can be a pain in the neck but I still like them.

Not what he was saying I think. He relocated them.

We have cats too. In town. One outside/one inside.

In wildlife management areas, cats can be legally shot. For good reason, they kill many species of wildlife and compete with the natural species there. They can vastly disrupt the natural environment.

Just a sign of our changing times.

When I was a kid, we never even heard of squirrel problems, deer overpopulation problems, raccoon problems, possum problems, pigeon problems, not even alligator problems.

We had to continually beef up the Federal & State Wild Life & Fisheriy Departments & create more stringent game control so local wildlife would not become extinct.

The big difference was, nobody in our area had this Food Stamps & Welfare problem, so when families ran out of meat & money, they hunted wildlife & also trapped & did not mind cooking & eating what was at hand.

Sadly, the recipes for such are lost!

aha.
if they are being relocated alive, I apologize for thew scolding tone of my message.
in our area there are private charitable programs which spay/neuter feral cats.
if such a a service is available that would be a good strategy before release......

is this FordBarn or CatBarn? :D

I've heard that dryer sheets workwell. Load the vehicle up with them and see if it keeps the squirrals away.
Jp (A friend uses them in his boat whenhe stores it)

H.L,
I was not too agile as I hauled around leg braces from Polio, so, while the folks worked in the fields, I helped Grannie cook. I am a master at re-creating her one of a kind SQUIRREL & DUMPLINGS:D The meat is light, tender, & sort of sweet. It is still a delicacy in my old neck of the woods.:) I still have "OLD BETSY," a Model 41 Remington Bolt Action "TARGETMASTER." Lethal squirrel gun!! Chief could "POP" a squirrel out of the top of a 90 foot White Oak tree with it!!:D Bill W.
