An oil pan question

I had the oil pan powder coated on one of my Model A's and the heat from the baking (400 degrees) melted the solder from around the oil drain plug.
Would I have that same concern with the pan on my T?

YES! The front dam is soldered after being riveted. The brazing should be fine.

If you are after a smooth inside for slick oil flow, then clean the pan well, (sandblasting will leave tiny sand particals that are impossible, so don't), clean with lacquer thinner, and coat with Gyptal.

The rebuilt engine I am trying to free up has that stuff on the oil pan. Is it a rubber type paint?

No rubber, it's an insulating red enamel paint, been around for years, used in electrical and automotive applications. Brushed on clean metal sticks fine, won't flake, and makes oil pan easy cleanup and lets the oil slip over easy. Lots of places sell it, check around for best prices.
