Ampco Vapor Lubricator

I installed this Lubricator earlier this week. Before I installed I just happened to top off my fuel tank I actually track my fuel mileage on all our vehicles including my antiques.

The first improvement after the installation was the engine ran smoother and then after driving the car a couple of miles the engine was quieter and has a smoother power band.

Now the real proof of the difference of before and after, I took the car on a 100 mile drive all back roads stop and go traffic and when I refueled with a topped off the tank the fuel mileage was 16.1 ! NEVER has this car been this fuel efficient the very best I ever achieved was 13.8 city and that was driving with an egg under the pedal “was intentionally going for fuel mileage” So bottom line the Vapor Lubricator works and now the car is so much more enjoyable to drive.

Here is the link to their site which will provide detailed information about the product http://www.ampcolubes.com/home

when you checked your mileage did you run it until almost empty and re fill...OR did you just top it off, topping off is not accurate to check milage

They used to sell a similar product called Redex, I believe it's still available in the UK.

Never run tank dry, but always fill till just below the neck, could be a little off + or -

During that 100 mi drive how much MMO did you consume??
Paul in CT

You can actually set the flow rate and I set to 1/4 turn out from close position, looks like I have used about 1/4 of one ounce + or -
But the way the car is running well worth the cost of MMO

I like the idea of that.....do they sell an injector plate for a Model A.....also I'm running a Marval Shibler carb if that makes a difference ......thanks Joe

At one time Marvel made their own intake oilers, but their operation was OPPOSITE that of the Ampco oiler. They were inverse oilers.

The Ampco feed rate is directly dependent on manifold vacuum. Wherever you set the feed rate, it is greater at idle and cruise with high vacuum, dropping to near zero feed as the vacuum falls with wide open throttle.

The Marvel oilers (I collect them) all have a sight glass to set the drip rate and the feed changes in inverse proportion to manifold vacuum. At idle (high vacuum) the feed is minimal, at full throttle it is much greater. Just the opposite of the Ampco feed rate.

There were several models, some with metal cans, others with glass, one model with a fancy chrome faced feed sight glass that mounted on the dash and was adjustable from there.

As to which feed profile- Ampco's vacuum direct or Marvel's vacuum inverse, is better becomes debatable and dependent on your usage and goals.

The Vapor Lubricator feed line connects to the Vacuum port on your intake manifold, you may need a "T" if you have Vacuum wipers

How many nickels does one need for this device? Were you using MMO prior to the installation. I use it in the gas, do you think I'll see a difference in performance or just end up with less nickels:confused::eek:

Purchased on E bay and paid $45.00 the engine does run quieter and the fuel mileage has improved, like you I have always used MMO in the fuel tank and with this devise will most likely use the same amount or possibly less.

Do you still use MMO in the fuel tank? Might be a stupid question but just turned 80 so things (brain) are slowing down:eek:

I would think if you use this setup you would not need to put it in the fuel. Seems redundant to me since both would do the same thing.
