Amana, Iowa Model A day

Saturday, August 21st was the day that somewhere around eighty Model A's and their owners, friends, and admirers invaded the small town of Amana for a day of fellowship, entertainment and, true to Model A tradition, terrific food. This was the second of hopefully many gatherings sponsored by the Cedar Rapids "Hawk A Model A Ford Club". My wife and I truly enjoyed the three day weekend and are planning to attend next year.

I have attached a few pictures of the event including some of several unrestored original A's, a picture of two of the local actors who were in the plays presented during the evenings, and general shots of the lineup. Hopefully, others will post their comments and pictures. Gar Williams

The Lincoln Highway leads almost directly to the Amana Colonies -- no matter if you live East or West. Our "tour" was about 220 miles from IL to, arguably, the best German food in 1,000 miles. Yes, it's better than your Aunt Gertrude's by far.
IL was well represented, but cars from NE and KS were there, too.
My favorite was a Bell Telephone Business Coupe with ALL the period equipment. The no-that's-not-a-golf-club-door was the cat's meow. (Some speculation about this feature earlier on The Barn when someone showed a pic of a BC with the door). It is real Henry Ford. Evidently he would do some fun stuff for fleet buyers!
I'm with Gar. We are going again next year -- already advised our bed and breakfast lady to save us a room!

Gar & Bruce - Thank you so much for the comments. Our monthly meeting is tonight, and I will pass along your kind words.

The offical count was 81, and you are right; the State of Illinios was well represented - 15. Last year there was 13.

Although this year's numbers were less than last, we realize that may very well have been due to weather (and the economy). We have already begun making plans for next year, and maybe we can plan the weather too! (At least wish we can.)

Thank you all who were able to attend,

More pictures including a partially repainted and replated very original 155A Murray Town Sedan. They still exist!

Both The Amana Colonies www.amanacolonies.com and the Hawk A Model A Club www.hawkamodelaclub.org have web sites which will keep those interested up to date on next years plans. the Colonies have numerous B&B's which are a great place to stay for the weekend. I have pictured the one we used. (It's already taken for next year!) Gar Williams

At this point, the Hawk A club hasn't posted a date on their website www.hawkamodelaclub.org but I would suspect that they will soon.

Last year, 2009, was the same weekend as this year's event so I am gambling that they will schedule the Model A Days for the same weekend next year. Our B&B host who resides in Amana agreed with us so I suggest that you put it on the calendar for the same Saturday in 2011.

Remember, this is far from just a guy's event. The ladies have really enjoyed the Colonies and many came in Vintage clothing which I think is terrific! See you there! Gar Williams
