Am I the only one?

Never mind the mess in the garage. With 3 kids at home you ought to see the mess in the house! At least the mess in my garage makes a strange kind of sense to me.

Bolts, from my point of view. In my teens and 20's did a lot of wrenching, lived and breathed it, after work, 10 to 12 hrs on a weekend lovin it! Then marriage, kids, house', yard work etc. Didn't have time nor money, but I was still pickin em up, cars that is buying from time to time, just not workin on them. Now late 50's early 60's of age, and retired time to get back to what I love? Workin on all those cars I accumulated over the years, kids out of the house etc, have time now, so I have my garage built get to workin, when in no time at all I'm thinkin, damn this ain't as easy as it use to be? what the xxxx, then I realized, the cars I was buyin in my younger days were not as old, and nothing was rusted or rotted and had been sittin some 20 to 30yrs, and I'm not as young as I was, so it's now called a work out, but after realizin it's going to just take longer and more patience, I settled in, turned on the radio, acquired a cheap media blasting maching, those new fancy ratched wrenches to add to all the tools I already had, and little by little I accomplished what I used too. Your right, pickin tools up cleaning them off, puttin them back over and over, only so I trip over them and break my neck, lol, I find I'm still loving like I use to, keeps me going, it's my hobby, my passion, and had I not been challenged physically from birth...I probably would have done this for a livin instead of the phone company.
It's going to work out, be patient, be persistent and gett er done...

Catbob. Ya got that right mate! Trouble is, now days not only cant a guy get the kids into the garage to help cos of the TV remote, but poor guy's gotta go up against the Apple I-phone and the internet as well. Then, as if that's not bad enough, come supper-time he goes in the house sore, cold, covered in grease, and hungry, only to find there's not a single pot on the stove cos everyone's staring at a damned screen somewhere. Seems us car guys are the only sane ones left in the world!

We are all blessed that we have the tools, the time, the cars and the place to work on them. 25 yrs ago I had to start all over after a divorce and I had taken it all for granted. I enjoy every minute looking for stuff that my ADD brain has lost track of. I like having piles till the job is done. At least a have a place to start from the next time I get into the shop.

My tools are always put back in their proper place when I finish a project. The trouble is, I never seem to finish anything. Tools everywhere. I try to straighten up the shop every couple of months. LOL Can't do much of anything nowadays. Too old and decrepit. I used to blow leaves out of the yard, the whole thing at once. Today I blew them up on a tarp, because I needed some in the front yard. I managed to do a spot about 20 x 20 and it took all the starch out of me for sure.

I guess I'm not alone, based on the previous posts. Then I bought 2 or 3 of every tool.
Same problem! Next I put organizers in my drawers, which made it easier to identify the tool I lost, but no to find it. Then I labeled the drawers, cleaned up more often and became the organizational fanatic among my buddies. Still can't find stuff. Now I have my dream shop, 2 full tool boxes, a lift with a stocked tool tray, a 40 foot work bench,
and the same old problem. I guess I've reached the point of expertice for an ammature mechanic and old car rerstorer.

I just typed a dissertation on my shop/tool habits but hit the wrong button and it went bye bye. I am like most of you, however. Can't keep up with tools all that well.
I will not try to repeat what I had written. Nuff said.

I still can't understand why you can only find a straight tip screwdriver when your looking for a phillips or visa versa.

I must be peculiar.... I put each tool back in its place as I go. It's the only way I know where that tool is gonna be. It takes longer, but I figure it's about the same as the time I would spend searching for it, maybe less. It sure is getting hard to get down on the floor.... but darn, it's twenty seven times harder getting up again. I find I always lie on my right side or back, if I lie on my left side it's near impossible to get up. A bulging disk and three crumbling vertebrae put paid to that.

I….. Why is it, the last place you look? Lifted the trunk lid-viola!
I knew better, but-- might have been better to leave it in a pile.

Why is it always the last place you look??? because it would be pretty silly to keep looking after you found it….. :D

Gee a regular screw driver, pliers, an adjustable wrench and a big hammer… how many tools do you really need :p

I have the same story......I usually put the tools away but any flat spot gets piled high with stuff.
BOLTS......you always find things in the last place you look because.......when you find it tou stop looking !!!... LOL...... Mark

Look again flatford! Maybe ya only THINK ya found it! Maybe it's in even another pile somewhere. YOU KNOW! That little corner of the garage you've always been a little scared of scratching around in after dark!

Me too on the forgetful thing.
I'm really bad with tools and particularly keys which drives the wife mad!! I used to be an apprentice mechanic years ago, so you were using other people's tools. If you didn't put them away and tidy up you got a clip around the ear and couldn't go home until everything was found and put away:)
