Aluminum Fan ?

Well I heard stories of how dangerous the original steel fans can be, also noticed I had a crack in mine, so ordered an aluminum one from one of the biggest vendors and guess what? it dont fit, the center of the pulley hole is smaller and rubs on the nose casting of the pump, to the point tighting the nut locks down the fan. I thought alot of guys used these???

Looks like I could grind about 1/16 out of the center cone shaped hole and it will work..but what the heck??

call Don and send it back......make sure it isnt the water pump you are trying to put it on...he is good and will take care of it for you....

check the pump- once I tried to put my aluminum fan on a borrowed spare water pump and discovered the casting at the front of the pump was egg-shaped eccentric instead of round.

My aluminum fan came with instructions to grind the outside of the pump not the inside of the pulley.

Supposedly the pump castings vary somewhat and if you grind the front it's covered by the pulley when it's installed.

Since the aluminum pulley cannot be made as thin as the steel one if you grind the inside of the pulley it may cause a problem because you would be removing material from beneath the groove for the belt and it could split.

On some of the leakless waterpumos you must put the fan in a lathe and remove 1/16" and the fan fits perfectly we have did this operation to many alum fans and some fans have more tham 50.000 mils on them I would rather machine the fan than grind the pump My 2 cents worth Gord, B by the Bay
