Alternator / Generator Keeps Loosening

I was wonder what a good fix would be for a Generator that keeps loosening?
The bolt seems to stay tight but it keep working itself toward the engine then the belt becomes loose..

Thanks!

HI: What I do is when I go to tighten the bolt with a ratchet and open end wrench tighten it down by hand as much as u can then take a big pipe and put it over the ratchet and have some one hold the open end and use the pipe to tighten the bolt as tight as u can get it. But just don't go to tight their only a # 8 bolt but that is how I have done it for years good luck. reggiedog

It bolts to the Timing Gear cover. You will have to remove one of the timing gear cover bolts and replace it with the new one that comes with the Tensioner Bracxket.

I just recently had this problem. So when I installed my 6 volt alternator it came with the new Tensioner Bracket and the longer bolt came with it.

THEN, I noticed that even with the new bracket I wasn't getting the belt tight enough so I welded a 5/16" piece of metal shaped to the curvature of the section of the Tensioner Bracket that presses against the Alternator/Generator. Tightened it right up.

Good Luck. :)

Don't weld any thing to the bracket u can NEVER get it off. Just use the socket and the wrench like I said up above it works and is the best way to get it tight but it's your car do as u see fit. Good luck reggiedog

I am not sure why you are concerned, he is welding it to a repro bracket.

Actually I welded the extension piece onto the bracket just to get it to work properly. Eventually I will figure out a better way and then I can remove the piece I welded on.

For now, it works. But thanks for the input anyway, it all helps. Makes you think.....
