Alternator Bracket Fix

Glenn C. and I noticed that the alternator bracket that comes with the alternator supplied by the various parts vendors positions the alternator too far back resulting in the pulleys being misaligned. I have had issues with a chaffing and noisy fan belt. Our solution was to rebuild the bracket as shown below. The bracket on the top (or left), depending on the picture, shows the mounting bracket that came with the alternator along with the modified bracket. My welding doesn’t look pretty but I am apparently an artist when it comes to using a grinder. Now I know many people on this site will say – "another reason to stick with Henry's generator..." but we thought it was worthwhile sharing.

As one that is alway accused of demanding people to stick to original, I find your solution to your problem a fine one. No one should have to live with the noise from ill aligned pulleys. Makes me wonder why the original bracket was not made to work in the first place as you are not the only person to speak of this problem.

I had the same problem with an alternator installation. I made a new "H" bracket with the part that attaches to the alternator longer than the attachment on the alternator. Then I stacked it with flat washers. All I had to do to line the belt up even with the pulleys was to shift washers back and forth.
