Almost lost my A

Glad to hear that you were not part of an accident. No matter what type of vehicle you drive either old or new the intelligence of some drivers is lacking, Stop Signs, Signals, and speed limits only seem to be guide and do not seem to be observed by most drivers. My theory is that no matter how dumb you think some drivers are someone will prove you wrong and do something even dumber.
You have to be very carefull when driving anything.

The other day my friend put his hand out the window to turn, a police officer pulled him over and ask him what was he doing? So they don't even know. As you say can't fix stupid.

No matter what precautions we do or have on our Classic Model "A", defensive driving or not, if the other driver isn't paying attention then it's our loss when our beautiful piece of history and affection is wrecked beyond repair.
It's a chance we all take everytime we get on the road. It still doesn't hurt to have 360 degree vision!

When my son came around I installed seatbelts in my Tudor and installed LED tail lights and turn signals and third center mounted brake light. The mods are ugly, but I have to put safety first. A driver doesn't have to be and idiot to make a mistake and rear-end another car. People are now conditioned for the extra lights. Even a good driver can zone out or become distracted.

The single thing I learned in the Army driving class in basic training 45 years ago that stayed with me and saved me many time was: In any driving situation, think- what is the dumbest thing anyone could do?, and then expect it. 9 times out of 10 they did it! It pays to pay attention.

Ditto from when I was in the Army, plus I remember being told to keep a foot over the brake pedal at intersections because it can save a fraction of a second when someone does something stupid, and most accidents are at intersections.

...I do question the effectiveness of some Model A turn signals that are commonly used...

If they aren't obvious BEFORE they turn on, most drivers won't see them until they've been flashing a while - they know the brake light is there, and subconsiously expect the turns to be in the same place.
