All Steamed Up

I installed a new headliner in my 69 Torino. This was the first headliner I have ever done. I have a few wrinkles in it. I was told that the wrinkles could be removed by using a steamer or a steam iron. Has anyone ever steamed a headliner to get rid of wrinkles before? What should I be aware of before I try this? How well does it work? Any hints or comments would be appreciated.

They do use steamers to remove wrinkles, but I don't think I would use a steam iron. I think a steam iron would easily ruin a headliner, especially if it is vinyl.

I was told by a guy that works on interiors, not to use a blow dryer, he said it would dry out the headliner. I was told that you could use a steam iron, but not to let the iron touch the material.

The factory used steam, close all the windows, fill the interior with steam and down the line they go. After a few minutes, it shrinks to size.
