air fuel mix

hello- i am newbie-back ground: in sniders catalog they show spray needle assy for holly nh carbs[t6213] which looks like what ive got on my car. on most enines which are not model T, you turn the mixture needle in all the way , then back out 1 1/4 .
qhuestion: should i unhook the forked lever which goes nto dash board and turn the assy all way in [cw] then turn it out [ccw] 1 1/4 ? then hook fork back?

quest2: cw turns make less air [richer] ---ccw leaner?

ques 3: when starting, should i turn spray assy cw 1/4 turn?
thankyou

No reason to unhook the forked rod. Adjust ccw for more fuel and cw for less. Usually turn open ccw some to start. Trial and error will show best amount to turn.

STORY TIME:

After owning and driving Ts on a lot of T tours road trips etc, my wife and i were on a local T tour driving thru Hilly Jasper Indiana . Driving up a pretty steep hill i noticed my wife had reached over and turned the fuel rod out a little bit.
She had never done that before and i asked her what she was doing ? She replyed she was just doing what i had always done " and fixed the engine sound".
She had no idea of what rich or lean was she just understood that that rod fixed the engine sound!!!

So i guess thats as good as it gets with a T , keep the sound smooth and drive them to the moon......

thanks- i do not express myself well-the forked rod is to tweak the mixture but how do i get the spray needle assy to the initial setting?-------do i unhook the fork and turn the assy in [cw] til it stops and then turn it out [ccw] 1 1/4 turns? that seems to be common for many non model t carbs thanks

If the forked rod will not turn the screw all the way in from inside the car there is something wrong. The fork acts as a universal joint.
The normal procedure is to turn the screw in until it gently bottoms out, then open it 1 1/2 turns as a starting point. Once the engine is warmed up you can adjust the screw in or out to find the smoothest running position.

thank you steve- very interesting- had i not seen the video of the needle and i saw a anular groove in the needle, i would have thought that it belonged there
