air cleaner housing

Hello
I did some net searching, but I did not get an answer to my question
So natch I come here, I have a 64, 292 sitting on a stand
I also have a FE air cleaner housing did the fE and late y blocks use the
same air cleaner housing?
I know that most of the time Ford air cleaner housing will fit both the
2 and 4bbl carb
Best

Ford helped keep parts inventory under control by having parts interchange between vehicles when possible. It's also why the 2bbl carbs have the empty half circle in the back, so the same air cleaners can be used.
'58 was the first year of FE's. '64 was the last year for y-blocks.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if there's a fair amount of overlap for '58 to '64 air cleaner housings.

Are you trying to avoid getting called on 'original/correct' parts at car shows, or you're just curious?
Air cleaners may be more specific to the year & vehicle model than the engine, but I'm just guessing.

Unless it doesn't fasten into place, just looks like it doesn't belong or the color doesn't go with other things under the hood I'll bet only a few purists would notice.

I just happen to have the air cleaner and no FE motor but I have the Y block...
just found a set of t-bird dual exhaust for the Y-Block, will they fit my 292?

Yes and no. They will bolt onto the engine but it depends on what vehicle you put them into and how well you want them to fit. Note the outlet flange positions in the photos.
What are their casting numbers?

Actual '55/'57 Thunderbird specific exhaust manifolds, especially the driver side one, are different from the 'full-sized car' dual exh manifolds. The ECJ prefix driver side Baby Bird exh manif is usually pricier than the others because the oem ones are harder to find and it's the only one that clears the steering column. (top one in the first photo) Trucks are a whole other can of worms.
Also, there was a size/internal volume upgrade for '57.

The last 292 in a car was '62, and '64 in trucks. The FE and 292 air cleaners looked very similar in the late 50's on cars. Probably the same. On trucks the air cleaners were different than cars.

As for air cleaners, the Ford "flat top" , Motorcraft, and Holley carbs will accept the same air cleaner base. The complete cleaner itself may be different as to application.
