AGM Battery

That brand of glass matt batteries you guys mention... I have heard the quality of them has fallen off, as they sent manufacturing to another country.

I have a glass-matt battery in 3 of my collector cars. I also have disconnects on all of those except 1. The disconnects help a lot to extend battery life on something that is not a daily driver.

The warranty in a glass-matt battery is not indicative of life expectancy if taken care of.
 
The Optima you buy today has little in common with the Optima you bought 10 years ago. Delco? Chinese, Timken? Chinese, the list goes on and on. Here’s something that should keep you awake at night: The bearings that are required for the US military’s airplanes are no longer manufactured in the US, they are manufactured in China.

What scares me most is a lot of our medications come for China. :eek: :eek:
 
Years ago, Optima announced they were building a new factory in Mexico but only because the demand was so great the American plant couldn't keep up. They said then 'The batteries built here will only be for overseas sales the US plant will keep operating.

Surprise. They lied. Typical big corporation driving for cheaper and cheaper, they closed the American plant. The batteries made in Mexico were/are garbage. BUT the price stayed high.

Good old Corporate America. Our guys go fight their wars while they stick it in our 'arses' as the Brits would say.
 
Had to rebuild the differential because of a Chinese bearing . the roller separater or cage broke up an allowed the rollers to gather and lock the drive shaft.NO MORE CHINESE /TIWAN JUNK. for me I am sick of what has happed to my country.Keep going to Wallmart and buying online cheap junk. all of the clothes now are made ovner seas as is our shoes. I could not find a belt the other day the wasn't made in China. Pardon my rant but I am mad as hell
 
Go to a farm store and buy a farm rated 6V battery. If cared for properly it will last at least 10 years. My current one is 12 years so far, have used them for years in machinery.

I have a NOCO Genius 1A charger for maintenance and a 10A charger for when I need to quick-charge or repair a battery. Nice thing about using 6V batteries is you can put a pair in series and maintain them using a single maintainer on its 12V setting. The 10A charger has a 6V AGM setting if you need to quick-charge an Optima.
 
I had never heard of an AGM battery before just recently. Got a new mower and it uses a smaller AGM 12v battery. Had to look it up as I read the OM.

AGM means absorbent glass mat and refers to the fine glass fiber separator between the positive and negative plates that helps absorb all the battery acid. AGM Batteries are advanced lead-acid batteries.
